1889年,当时德国的工业总产值超过了农业,成为工业大国。英国用了将近100年完成的工业革命,在德国只用了不到一半的时间。

1914年第一次世界大战爆发,德国的汽车工业已基本形成了一个独立的工业部门,汽油机在汽车上的应用越来越普及。汽油机为石油化工产品提供了很大的发展契机。这也为以后“诺伯特”的成功奠定了坚实的基础。

1929年,其创始人Thomas (托马斯)在位于德国北部称为“化学之都”的路维希港成立了一家命名为托马斯的化学公司,主要从事石油化工产品技术研发,生产制造。在一次偶尔的聚会,让Thomas (托马斯)彻底改变了命运,当时认识了奔驰公司的掌门人弗里特立奇·本茨 。二人从此便有了生意上的来往。

1931年,托马斯化学公司自行开始生产汽车专用机油,并在曼海姆工业港建立第一个外部生产企业,自此,德国诺伯特石油化学公司诞生了。

德国诺伯特石油化学公司除了给奔驰公司供应汽车润滑油产品之外,还给德国其它汽车企业供应润滑油产品,德国诺伯特石油化学公司的润滑油产品,一直仅仅在德国本土销售,在制造出第一批润滑油产品之日起,有几十年的时间围绕德国的汽车企业转。在二战期间,德国诺伯特石油化学公司也为纳粹的部队供应过战争军队机械使用的润滑油产品。

1973年世界汽车拉力锦标赛出现,随着德国的汽车加盟赛事,德国诺伯特石油化学公司的润滑油产品也随汽车开始走出国门,开始随汽车赛事让其他国家的消费者有所认识,1981年开始,德国诺伯特石油化学公司陆续赞助了多届汽车拉力锦标赛,从此,诺伯特润滑油展开了世界范围的市场销售。

屹今为止,诺伯特润滑油在世界46个国家有销售,并且建立了70多个市场推广机构。

为了满足日益恶劣的赛车环境要求,研制出高性能的润滑油产品,1987年,德国诺伯特石油化学公司在慕尼黑建立第一家实验室。从此,诺伯特润滑油的技术发展如虎添翅。

1997年 “诺伯特合成油”面世并风行德国,产品率先采用合成基础油制作,是世界上最早采用合成油生产润滑油的品牌之一。

1999年,二次加氢裂解技术应用到产品研发中。公司全部产品均采用加氢油来调合高档润滑油产品。与美孚、壳牌同期的最早使用二次加氢基础油制造润滑油的公司。

1996年, 随着工业的不断发展,慕尼黑实验室研制出新型的适合现代工业设备润滑的高端油液产品,并且随工业润滑油液销售量提升, 2000年,诺伯特将重心转向了供应工业油液, 2006年,工业油液销售量甚至一度超过车用油的销售额。

近十年,诺伯特加速了工业特种产品的出口,在欧洲许多国家建立驻外办事处。
